Peak performance
Eurosafe Solutions has landed a contract to test the one of the highest fall protection system in the UK.
Ensuring employees’ safety while working at height is a priority for organisations across many sectors and for one company, it means inspecting and maintaining the highest fall protection system in England and Wales.
Under a five-year agreement with Snowdonia National Park, Sheffieldbased Eurosafe Solutions will test wire access systems and eyebolts at the Summit building at Hafod Eryri, Snowdon, which is located 3,560 feet, or 1,085 metres, above sea level, making it the highest point in the British Isles outside of Scotland.
The building, which opened in June 2009 and houses a visitor centre and cafe, attracts around half a million sightseers a year.
Eurosafe Solutions won the maintenance contract having initially designed and installed its fall protection system. The company has 20 years’ experience in the fitting, testing and monitoring of these safety systems, offering risk assessments, training courses on working at height and long-term check-up and maintenance programmes.
It has worked on schools, shopping centres and commercial and residential properties across the country, as well as some of the UK’s most iconic buildings, including the O2 Arena, the Millennium Stadium and Manchester United’s Old Trafford football ground.
The firm’s testing and inspection services meet BS EN 795:1997 and go beyond a “sample” testing approach by physically testing every system to apply a specified load for a number of minutes to each end component.
Following each inspection, Eurosafe Solutions produces a detailed report giving its inspector’s findings and provides up-to-date system certification.
Peter Trumper, head of property services at the Snowdonia National Park Authority, said: “We are pleased to be working with Eurosafe Solutions on the ongoing testing and inspection of the systems, which is part of our commitment to the safety of this building.
“This is a uniquely hazardous environmentand planned scheduled maintenance is essential to minimise the risks to our staff and outside workers. We chose the wire access systems from Eurosafe Solutions when the building was designed as they had minimal visual impact on the building and the environment, yet they were very robust and met all our safety access requirements.
We have been delighted with the way the building looks and how the access systems have performed in these conditions.”
Eurosafe Solutions director, John Boyle, added: “We are really pleased to be working with Snowdonia National Park on this testing and inspection contract. As many of our staff are keen climbers, this will be a job that all our team will wantto do!
“By working with clients such as the National Park Authority, we aim to take away the headache of having to ensure that their systems are properly maintained, giving them peace of mind and minimising the risks to staff and to a business.”
