Centre for Alternative Technology

Inspiring location
Flexible learning
Sustainability at its core

In 2007 the Graduate School of the Environment (GSE) was formed at the Centre for Alternative Technology. The GSE offers several high-standard programmes at postgraduate level. These include:
• MSc Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies
• MSc Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies by distance learning
• MSc Renewable Energy and the Built Environment
• Professional Diploma Architecture: Advanced Environmental and Energy Studies
• MSc Environmental Change and Practice: Buildings
• Professional Doctorate: Ecological Building Practices

The GSE is based in the stunning new Wales Institute for Sustainable Education (WISE) (voted Number One Building of 2010 by the Daily Telegraph).
WISE will give thousands of people the opportunity to learn new skills for a sustainable future. The location of the building, its state of the art facilities and the 35 years of experience that CAT has in sustainability practice, means studying here offers students unparalleled academic and practical experience.

Staff

The Centre for Alternative Technology’s staff provide many years of experience across all the fields covered by the course. In addition to this valuable wealth of experience, external staff supply, extensive academic and vocational knowledge from their ongoing professional involvement in the fields of architecture, engineering, sustainability and consultancy. The staffing ratio is extremely generous and we take great pride in our caring, effective personal student support.

In the last ten years our courses have done more than any other to change the landscape of environmental discourse. Join us and join the debate.

Testimonials from graduates

“ I would like to thank all the staff at CAT who have really inspired and opened many doors in my mind over the last year and a half”.
